Flower arranging connects us to our earth in the most fundamental ways. Its fruits, vegetables and grains feed us while our hearts are opened by the hands-on experience of flowers. Their beauty and fragrance empower us. They inform us - we compose in a myriad of ways at their direction.

A typical retreat (10:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) begins with a short demonstration/discussion engaging particular concerns for that day. In the afternoon everyone creates. Possible styles for the year include: cascading (pedestal), country informal (basket), longevity (glass-no oasis), large scale (urn), centerpiece (horizontal), topiary or contemporary Zen-like pieces. Choose one style for each workshop that your group attends.

Peonies, hydrangeas, perennials, annuals, berries and branches become close friends - rewarding us with a study of color, scale and texture. Imagine classical overabundance, then picture a singular flower with a few greens - experience the whole gamut!

Workshops are held on Fridays or Saturdays.
Per person: Morning session only $75, all day $100, tow days $200. A deposit of $50 is requested three weeks in advance. Please telephone to make a date for your workshop. (540 923-4492)

Bring a picnic to enjoy in the garden. Drinks and snacks are provided.

There is joy in your accomplishments.

Happy Flowering!

Special Saturdays* are set aside to intimately connect practical information regarding flower design to the the process itself. We meet questions as we analyze several designs, noting changes as the work evolves. What does texture add to the composition? Why are certain color combinations full of zest and sparkle? Why not a smaller container? What is process? What is completion? We convene on my front porch, surrounded by the majesty of nature. From there we practice seeing differently. Lemonade awaits you! Bring a picnic.

The group is limited to fifteen people ($45 per person). Full payment three weeks before preferred date, please.
