Professional Qualifications
Eighteen years as a professional flower designer though I actually began
landscape design at age five, reworking a backyard stream bed!
Studied Bonsai and Ikebana in Hawaii and altar arrangements in England.
Author of the book, Hardie Newton's Celebration of Flowers, published
by Storey Publishing.
Some of my most recent projects include designing the Memorial Garden
for Piedmont Episcopal Church (including a Biblical herb garden), designing
a garden with deference to the principles of Feng Shui, and chairman of
the Design Committee of the Main Street Madison Restoration Project.
I have given lectures and or demonstrations at the following locations:

Washington Flower Show
Longwood Gardens
Williamsburg Symposium
United States Botanic Garden
Blandy Arboretum (State Arboretum of Virginia)
Filoli Center (Woodside, California)
Recognition from the General Assembly of Virginia (by both the House of
Delegates and the Senate) at the State House in Richmond, Virginia
Current
Activities:
1.) Lecturing to garden club groups and at arboretums and botanical gardens
throughout the country.
2.) Conducting workshops at my home as well as locations related
to my lecture schedule.
3.) Weekly design for Airlie Conference Center, Warrenton, Virginia, as
well as other commercial commissions.
